The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is a state institution established by Chapter 9 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (the Constitution) to support constitutional democracy. The SAHRC is mandated in terms of section 184 of the Constitution to promote protect, development and attainment of human rights, and to monitor the observance of such rights within the Republic of South Africa.

The Constitution in section 9 and 10 respectively enshrines the rights to equality and dignity in addition to all other rights in the Bill of Rights (Chapter 2). These rights are interdependent, and highlight the need for respect for all persons, irrespective of, for example, their age or related circumstances.

As October draws to a close, the SAHRC - Limpopo finds crucial to commemorate the Older Persons’ Day with the Aged, to educate them about their Human Rights, as it is a known factor that Older Persons in South Africa are subjected to daily serious violation of their rights in all spheres of life.

The objective of the endeavoured commemoration is to promote a culture of human rights, and to advance an understanding of Social Harmony National Effort - SHiNE in the Limpopo Communities for better social relationships amongst the society.

The commemoration will strengthen the realisation of human rights in the province, as follows:

Venue: Dudišanang Bagolo Centre - Segopye Village, in Ga-Mamabolo, Mankweng.

Date   : 28 October 2022                                                         Time  : 09h30
