Media Advisory: SAHRC proceeds with litigation against Steve Hofmeyer relating to utterances made against the LGBTIQ+ community on social media

The South African Human Rights Commission (The Commission) has instituted legal proceedings under the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act 2000 against Mr Steve Hofmeyr based on comments made by Mr Hofmeyr  relating to the LGBTIQ+ community in April 2022.
A directions hearing will proceed in the Gqeberha High Court, sitting as an Equality Court, which will determine how the matter will proceed going forward. The details are as follows:

Venue: High Court Gqeberha, Number 2 Bird Street, Gqeberha, 6006.  

The Commission underscores the importance of promoting and protecting the rights of all LGBTQIA+ and of gender non-confirming persons.
