Detention of foreign nationals beyond the prescribed legal periods at police station holding cells has an adverse effect on the children’s right to family and parental care due to their parents being detained. Furthermore, it should be noted that it is not only migrant children who are facing challenges of not having appropriate documentation but also children who are born in South Africa and have not acquired appropriate legal documentation. This poses challenges for children to access services from schools, clinics, and social welfare institutions.
The MPO will therefore be conducting a workshop which is aimed at empowering Emakhosikati with information that will enable them to deal with challenges faced by migrant children in their respective communities.
The workshop is envisaged to be held as follows:
Date: 17 November 2022
Venue: The Winkler Hotel, White River
Time: 09h00 – 15h00
Ends
