Media Release: The SAHRC North West Provincial Office will conduct a systemic intervention on police visibility in communities under Dr Ruth Segomotsi District and Ngaka Modiri Molema District

Date: 25 January 2023

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission’s North West provincial office has noted through its monitoring work, the challenge of police visibility in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Ngaka Modiri Districts. On further enquiry, the Commission was informed that some of the factors that contribute to the challenge of police visibility include the lack of human and material resources in the police stations servicing these areas.

To address this issue at a systemic level, the Commission will be conducting a systemic intervention into challenges relating to police visibility in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Ngaka Modiri Molema Districts. The intervention is aimed at assessing the extent of the challenges and their impact on the affected communities. The intervention will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to explore solutions to the identified challenges.

The initiative will be in the form of site inspections on 25 & 26 January 2023 followed by a dialogue with relevant stakeholders on 27 January 2023. The dialogue is scheduled to be held as follows:

Date: 27 January 2023

Time: 09:00

Venue: 41 on Market Lodge, Vryburg

Ends
