Media Advisory: SAHRC KZN Provincial Office will conduct engagements and monitoring interventions to assess and monitor governments response to the KZN April 2022 floods

The SAHRC KwaZulu Natal provincial office will hold engagements with various disaster management centres in the province to assess governments response to the KZN April 2022 Floods. This follows reports provided by the Provincial Government to the Commission on the progress of relief measures undertaken. The Commission has since the advent of the flood disaster been engaged in multi-disciplinary interventions aimed at monitoring and protecting the rights of flood victims.

Accordingly, the Commission will seek to establish whether the reports on relief measures received are both accurate and align with the applicable constitutional provision/s These engagements will be accompanied by monitoring/ inspections to mass care centres, temporary residential units(TRUs), and transitional emergency accommodation (TEA) where the displaced victims from the various mass care centres have been relocated to.
