Media Advisory: SAHRC Free State Provincial Office will conduct stakeholder engagement on teenage pregnancy

14 February 2023

Attention: Editors and Reporters

In the past year, the Free State Health Department has recorded an alarming number of hundred and fifty (150) births in just four months for girls aged between ten and fourteen in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District. This has been recorded the highest number of teenage pregnancies in the Free State province.

The Free State Provincial Office will thus conduct a stakeholder engagement on teenage pregnancy intending to bring solutions which may assist in curbing teenage pregnancy in the province. Moreover, the stakeholder engagement will zoom in on the excessive occurrence of adolescent motherhood in the rural areas of the province. This nemesis is disturbing and increases public health worries and high number of girl-child drop out before reaching grade twelve.

The stakeholder engagement is scheduled as follows:

Date      :             14 February 2023

Time     :             10H00

Venue   :             SAHRC Training Room

- Ends –
