The role of monitoring and assessing human rights and potential human rights violations, provides for an opportunity for the Commission to inspect areas of potential violation, and facilitate redress where required.
In addition to its monitoring activities, the Commission aims to popularize its Social Harmony National Effort (SHiNE) initiative. The aim of SHiNE is to commit every South African to reflecting on and acting in small but important ways to develop respect and harmony in their homes and communities.
Monitoring activities will include site visits to disability centres, child and youth care centres, healthcare facilities, and schools.
