Media Advisory: SAHRC in Gauteng kicks off its Social Harmony Through National Efforts (SHINE) Initiatives

03 April 2023

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission in Gauteng kicks off its Social Harmony Through National Effort (SHINE) initiatives in the month of April 2023. The SHINE initiative is intended to encourage social harmony through national efforts. The Gauteng provincial office theme is “POSITIVE DIALOGUE IS OUR SAVING GRACE” focusing on the importance of dialogue and the sharing of lived experiences through our own narratives.

The SAHRC in Gauteng through SHINE acknowledges that there is a need to celebrate the different Freedoms that were fought for in South Africa. One way of honouring our freedoms is by having conversations and dialogues that speak to racism, inequality and the dignity of persons. Present-day racism often takes subtle forms and micro-aggressions which although covert, still exert a feeling of inequality and discrimination against people and communities. It is through looking at racism, segregation, and inequality through the lens of dialogue, that people can share their experiences and openly share their lived experiences.
