Media Advisory: SAHRC Free State Office to conduct a Provincial School Moot Court workshop in Bloemfontein

23 May 2023

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission in Free State and Department of Education will conduct a Provincial School Moot Court workshop in partnership with the University of the Free State, Legal Aid-SA, Department of Justice and Constitutional Democracy as a preparation for the essay rounds.

The National Schools Moot Court Competition seeks to promote greater awareness and understanding of the South African Constitution and the values embodied therein through active action in South African schools and communities. This is an annual moot court competition. Learner participation creates a mock trial competition.

The workshop is designed to prepare learners to answer hypothetical legal scenarios that highlight several questions related to human rights issues. The Learners must hypothetically argue their opinion, using international legal documents accordingly.

THE WORKSHOP WILL BE CONDUCTED AS FOLLOWS:
Date:    24th of May 2023 –
Venue: Bloemfontein (Sinodale Building)
Time:  12H00 – 16H00
