Media Advisory: SAHRC Gauteng Provincial Office to conduct an inspection of the Wastewater Treatment Works in Hammanskraal with the City of Tshwane

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) Gauteng Provincial Office (GPO) will conduct an inspection in loco, with the City of Tshwane and other stakeholders on 1 June 2023.

This follows the recent cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, North of Pretoria. According to reports, 23 people have so far died as a result of contracting cholera and the source of the outbreak has not yet been determined.

Following the news of the cholera outbreak, the office immediately undertook a monitoring visit to Hammanskraal, including Jubilee Hospital, where it met with key stakeholders and monitor temporary measures put in place to curb the outbreak.
