Media Advisory: SAHRC and Centre for Child Law launch booklet: How to get documented

Attention: Editors and Reporters

19th June 2023

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission or SAHRC) together with the Centre for Child Law (CCL) invite members of the media to the launch of a booklet; How to get documented, a step-by-step guide to getting birth certificates, citizenship documents and immigration visas for children in South Africa.

The booklet was developed following concern that many children on the move (child migrants, child refugees, children seeking asylum, internally displaced children, stateless children, and children who have been trafficked) and South African children, are not documented. Noting the importance of the right to an identity and its enabling rights to other rights, the organisations embarked on the production of the booklet. The launch of the booklet is part of SAHRCs Youth Month activities.

The launch will be held as follows:

Date: 20 June 2023
Time: 10H00 - 12H00
Venue: SAHRC Training Centre, 27 Stiemens Street, JD House, Braamfontein
