Media Statement: SAHRC appeals Johannesburg High Court decision on its powers

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has considered the judgment of the Johannesburg High Court that was delivered on 14 July 2023 in AfriForum vs SAHRC.

After careful consideration, the SAHRC has decided to appeal the decision and has therefore instructed its legal representatives to file an application for leave to appeal the decision.
Further communication will be released as developments unfold in the matter.

NB: The SAHRC will not take interviews on the case until the filing of the said application for leave to appeal.
