Media Advisory: SAHRC North West launches Social harmony National Effort – “Good governance starts at home: empowered women a cornerstone of strong families and communities”

Attention: Editors and Reporters

31 July 2023

The North West Provincial Office of the Commission (“NWPO”) will be launching its Social Harmony National Effort (“SHiNE”) initiative under the theme of “Good Governance Starts at Home: Empowered Women a Cornerstone of Strong Families and Communities”.

Through this initiative, the NWPO will seek to unpack the key challenges that hold women back from achieving their full potential, such as gender-based violence and menstrual poverty, and seek meaningful and sustainable ways to get the whole society involved in addressing these challenges, with the ultimate view of empowering women who are the cornerstone of strong families and communities.

The key stakeholders the NWPO will be collaborating with include the North West Department of Social Development, the North West Department of Health, the North West Department of Education, the Office of the Premier in the North West, the Department of Correctional Services, Amathyma Foundation and the communities of Majakaneng and Rustenburg.
