The visit follows the Commissions visits in 2021 and 2022 after a fire broke out on 16 April 2021 destroying parts of the hospital, medical goods worth R40 million, as well as a large amount of personal protective equipment.
The visit to the hospital seeks to assess the extent of the progress made in rebuilding the sections of the hospital affected by the fire. In addition, the Commission wants to assess the effect the reconstruction has had on the patient care.
