Media Advisory: The SAHRC and partners will host the uKhamba Youth Pottery Exhibition and Competition finalist round with participants on the 19th of August 2023

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) together with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Clive Sithole Ceramics (Durban)/ Phansi Museum, Imiso Ceramics (Cape Town), and Van Schaik Bookstore will host the finalist round/ workshop with the youth which advanced through the first phase of the competition.  The youth finalist round on clay works, is part of the second phase of the Ukhamba Youth Pottery Exhibition and Competition, which is part of the Commissions SHiNE initiative.

Participants will create their own clay works which will demonstrate their interpretations and reflections on the meaning of the July Unrest and the April 2022 Floods Disaster. The Ukhamba Youth Pottery Exhibition and Competition aims to primarily advance the spirit of social harmony.

The finalist round/ workshop will be facilitated by the renowned ceramist Clive Sithole and will develop participants skills on working with clay, including preparing clay, design, shaping, drying, firing, and glazing.

The finalist round/workshop is scheduled as follows:
