South Africa faces challenges ranging from high unemployment and poverty to an ongoing energy crisis and rising costs of living. These phenomena have a negative impact on South Africa's food security situation by making food expensive and inaccessible for many people while increasing the number of people and households facing food shortages and poverty.
The threat of global warming and its associated effects on agricultural productivity, and maize production, have increased worries about food security. Given the current and foreseeable issues, producers, agricultural experts, and policymakers are all looking at various strategies to minimise the current and foreseeable food insecurity in the area. Regardless, the SAHRC in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform, and Rural Development, will hold stakeholder engagement in Bultfontein, Free State. This will be a platform for discussions on experiences of different role players and to forge lasting solutions for the benefit of communities.
Details are as follows:
- Date: 18-October 2023
- Venue: Bultfontein Community Hall
- Time: 10h00
