Media Advisory: The SAHRC in the North West together with other relevant stakeholders provide a Service Blitz to the community of Madinyane village as part of the systemic initiative to address statelessness

21 November 2023

ATTENTION: Editors and Reporters

On 05 September 2023, the South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) North West Provincial Office conducted a law clinic in the village of Madinyane, an area that has prevalent issues relating to statelessness in the North West province. The law clinic included a collection of information through surveys to assess the impact of statelessness. A number of community members remain without Identity Documents and Birth certificates and this inevitably affects other human rights, including, among others, the rights to education, access to health, and access to social security.

As part of its initiative to address human rights violations resulting from statelessness, the North West Provincial Office will provide a service blitz at Madinyane village with the Department of Home Affairs and other relevant stakeholders.

The service blitz is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date     Venue     Time
21 November 2023    Madinyane Primary School Sports ground    08:00 – 16:30

END
