Media Alert: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office conducts School Readiness Monitoring

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Mpumalanga Provincial Office (MPO) is embarking on a school monitoring programme within the 4 education districts in the province. The purpose of the programme is to observe the levels of readiness of schools to open for the 2024 academic year. The programme shall assess inter alia: enrolments, availability of LTSM, conditions of teaching and learning, etc.

The programme shall be implemented through visits to a sample of both primary and secondary schools, and Provincial Department of Education has been alerted to this intervention by the SAHRC.

Section 29 of the Constitution of South Africa,1996 provides that everyone has the right to basic education, including adult basic education and to further education, which the state, through reasonable measures, must make progressively available and accessible.
