Commissioner Gungubele will then meet with the Western Cape Children’s Commissioner as an important stakeholder in upholding the rights of children/learners. While focusing on education, Commissioner Gungubele will also learn of some of the key complaints which the provincial office is investigating. Site inspections and school monitoring activities both in the City and on the West Coast are planned for this visit. As part of this visit Commissioner Gungubele will also conduct an inspection at a community in Siyangena, and a visit to a shelter for homeless adults between meeting with stakeholders.
The Western Cape Provincial Office welcomes Commissioner Gungubele and looks forward to working with him towards the development and attainment of human rights in the province. S184(3)(c) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa mandates that the Commission must monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic. This visit is therefore designed to give the Commissioner an overview of the state of human rights in the province to prepare him for the work that awaits.
