Media Advisory: The South African Human Rights Commission in the North West Province will conduct a Capacity Building Workshops with traditional leaders in Morokweng and Taung

Attention: Editors and Reporters

21 FEBRUARY 2024

On 21 & 22 February 2024 the North West Provincial Office of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will conduct capacity building workshops aimed at capacitating traditional leaders in Morokweng Village under Kagisano Molopo local Municipality and Taung Village under Greater Taung local municipality.

The SAHRC notes with concern that, despite the dawn of freedom and democracy, and notwithstanding the gains achieved thus far, considerable challenges remain in respect of the advancement of the Bill of Rights.

The empowerment session will comprise training on the human rights jurisprudence and the three mandates of the Commission. It is envisaged that the community human rights champions will carry out work to further the mandate of the Commission after the workshops.

The capacity building workshops are scheduled to take place as follows:

Venue: Barolong Boora Tlou Ba Ga Mariba Tribal hall (Morokweng)

Date: 21 February 2024

Date: 10h00

Venue: Batlhaping Ba Ga Phuduhucwana Tribal Hall (Taung)

Date: 22 February 2024

Date: 10h00
