Media Briefing Invite: Launch of 2021 Mpumalanga Service Delivery Inquiry Report

Attention: Editors and Reporters

23 February 2024

During the 2021/2022 financial year, the South African Human Rights Commission (Commission) in Mpumalanga conducted an Investigative Inquiry into Service Delivery Challenges at Local Municipalities in Mpumalanga. The investigative inquiry came at the backdrop of service delivery complaints received against various local municipalities in Mpumalanga over the years. All 17 local and 3 district municipalities as well as relevant government departments and stakeholders in Mpumalanga took part in the inquiry. The issues raised in the various complaints included failure by municipalities to provide water and housing, sewage spillages, sewage treatment challenges, non-collection of refuse and potholes on the roads, among others.

The Commission will be launching the inquiry's comprehensive report and sharing its findings and directives aimed at addressing the aforesaid issues. The launch aims to present municipalities and communities with the report and offer the media an opportunity to engage the Commission on the report.

The launch is scheduled to take place as follows:

Date:    Monday, 26 February 2024

Venue: The Capital Hotel, Mbombela
Time:   10:00 – 12:00

Ends
