Media Advisory: SAHRC Free State Provincial Office to conduct monitoring activities in the Xhariep District Municipality

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (“the Commission”) office in the Free State (“FSPO”) will be conducting monitoring activities in the Xhariep District Municipality.  Section 184 (1) (c) of the Constitution states that, the Commission must monitor and assess the observance of human rights in the Republic. 

Activities will include the monitoring of the provision of health care services, including the implementation of recommendations made by the Commission in its Report of the National Investigative Hearing into the Status of Mental Health Care in South Africa (2017) which can be accessed online https://www.sahrc.org.za/home/21/files/SAHRC%20Mental%20Health%20Report%20Final%2025032019.pdf

 

Additionally, the FSPO will monitor local government service delivery in the Mohokare Local Municipality.

 

Monitoring will be conducted from 26 – 29 February 2024.
