Media Advisory: SAHRC to commemorate International Women’s Day in Nkomazi, Mpumalanga

Attention: Editors and Reporters

Thursday, 07 March 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC or Commission) will commemorate International Women’s Day with the theme of Three decades into democracy: A reflection into the promotion and protection of Women’s Rights in South Africa.

International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world, as part of recognising the achievements and the role women play in society. Consistent with the Commission’s work to address challenges unique to women, such as (domestic) violence; access to health care and reproductive rights; and access to education for the girl child, the Commission will be commemorating International Women’s Day and highlighting successes made and vulnerabilities that continue to plague women in general, and South African women in particular.

The Commission is a constitutional body, established to support constitutional democracy in terms of section 181 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa (Constitution). Section 184(1) of the Constitution obliges the Commission to promote, protect and monitor human rights in the Republic of South Africa.

International Women’s Day commemoration will be held as follows:

Date:  08 March 2024.

Venue: Steenbok Community Hall, Steenbok, Nkomazi, Mpumalanga
