On the 11th of March 2024, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) Limpopo Provincial Office is set to meet with Mr Ben Vorster and Dr Anneri Vorster, parents of a minor who was allegedly seen on social media uttering a racial slur towards Sonwabile, on an online platform. The meeting is part of the ongoing investigation into the complaints that were received from several individuals regarding the utterance which sparked racial tensions across social media platforms in South Africa.

It is the Constitutional mandate of the SAHRC to ensure commitment to promoting, protecting, and monitoring the adherence and observation of human rights in South Africa.

The (“SAHRC”) is a state institution established by Chapter 9 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 to support constitutional democracy. The Commission is mandated in terms of Section 184 of the Constitution to promote the protection, development, and attainment of human rights, and to monitor the observance of such rights within the Republic of South Africa.
