Media Advisory: SAHRC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office will commemorate Human Rights Day/Month and TB Day in Macabazini area, ward 11, in the Dr Nkosazana Dhlamini Local Municipality

20 March 2024

Attention: Editors and Reporters

The South African Human Rights Commission’s KwaZulu Natal Provincial Office (the Commission) in partnership with the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Local Municipality will commemorate Human Rights Day/Month and TB Day in the Macabazini Area, Ward 11. Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on 21 March and serves as a reminder of the struggles that many of our human rights defenders fought for to ensure a just and equitable society for all free from all forms of violence, oppression and inequalities.

The day commemorates the sacrifice of the 69 people who lost their lives, whilst protesting repressive, apartheid pass laws on the day in 1960 at Sharpeville, but also celebrates the Constitution as the key framework for the achievement of a rights-based society as well as the advancement of human rights. The theme for 2024 is “Three Decades of Respect for and Promotion of Human Rights”.
