Media Advisory: Follow-up engagement with the MEC for the Department of Education in the North West

Attention: Editors and Reporters

08 May 2024

The North West Provincial Office of the Commission, led by Commissioner Nomahlubi Khwinana, will meet with the MEC for the Department of Education in the North West.

This is a follow-up engagement with the MEC. The first engagement was undertaken on 20 March 2024, during which the Commission shared information on human rights issues of concern in the province emanating from its 2023/2024 school monitoring activities. The parties also discussed reports of the Commission issued against the Department of Education in the North West that the Department was yet to comply with.

The purpose of the engagement is to further engage on the above issues and for the Department to provide an update on its efforts and progress in addressing the issues raised at the last meeting, amongst others. The engagement will also provide an opportunity to explore areas of possible collaboration in the 2024/2025 financial year.

The engagement will be held as follows:
Date: 09 May 2024
Time: 09h00
Venue: Rosewood Country Lodge, Rustenburg
