MEDIA ADVISORY: SAHRC North West Provincial Office will be conducting a stakeholder engagement with the Rustenburg Local Municipality Mayor to discuss issues of mutual cooperation and ensure that Human Rights considerations are adequately factored in

Attention: Editors and Reporters

06 June 2024

The North West Provincial Office of the Commission will be conducting a stakeholder engagement with the Rustenburg Local Municipality Mayor to discuss issues of mutual cooperation and raise human rights issues of concern for the consideration of the Municipality as part of its Integrated Development Planning process.

The engagement is informed by the Commission’s work in the province. In this regard, in fulfilment of its mandate, the Commission has undertaken advocacy, monitoring and protection initiatives in the province to raise awareness among the public about their rights and foster a culture of human rights. These initiatives have revealed numerous human rights concerns, particularly regarding service delivery challenges at the local government level.

The stakeholder engagement presents an opportunity to collaborate in addressing service delivery challenges, ensure that human rights considerations are adequately factored into the Integrated Development Planning process and ensure adequate provision is made in the Municipality’s budget to address human rights concerns within the Municipality.

The stakeholder engagement is scheduled as follows:

Date: 6 June 2024

Time: 10:00

Venue: Rustenburg Municipality Offices
