Media Advisory: The North West Provincial office to conduct a subpoena hearing and a subsequent stakeholder engagement with the Department of Health in the North West

Attention: Editors and Reporters

17 July 2024

The North West Provincial Office (NWPO) will conduct a subpoena hearing in respect of the Head of the Department of Health (“the Department”) in the North West. The subpoena hearing relates to various complaints about access to the province’s health care services. The NWPO wrote numerous correspondences to the Department in its quest to investigate the complaints it received, which were not responded to.

Following the subpoena hearing, the North West Provincial Office will engage the Department on outcomes of its monitoring activities across various clinics and hospitals as well as psychiatric facilities and wards in the North West. The purpose of the engagement is to seek sustainable solutions to the issues uncovered during the monitoring activities, which include infrastructure and staffing challenges.

The subpoena proceedings and engagement are scheduled as follows:

Date: 17 July 2024

Time: 09:00

Venue: 25 Heystek Street, Rustenburg.
