The subpoena hearing relates to a long-standing complaint relating to a land dispute between occupiers and restitution beneficiaries in Straatsdrift and Tshwaro Farms. The Commission previously engaged the Department on this matter, during which engagement, the Department undertook to take steps to address the land dispute issue. To date, the Department has failed to honour the undertakings it made, necessitating that subpoena proceedings be instituted against them.
