Media Advisory: The SAHRC Gauteng Provincial Office & Commissioner Madlingozi will meet with the Gauteng MEC for Social Development to discuss the NPO funding crisis

Attention: Editors and Reporters

06 AUGUST 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (“SAHRC”) Gauteng Provincial Office is investigating the funding crisis experienced by Non-Profit Organisations (“NPOs”) since the beginning of the 2024/2025 financial year. The crisis has had a devasting impact on the operational running of various NPOs in the province. The purpose of the engagement is to discuss the Department of Social Development’s plan to address the crisis and to prevent a similar occurrence in future. The plan and progress report received from the Department will form part of the SAHRC investigative report into the NPO funding crisis in the province.

The engagement will be held as follows:

Date: 06 August 2024

Time: 11h00

Venue: 69 Commissioner Street, Office of the MEC for Social Development
