Media Briefing Invitation: Outcomes of the SAHRC engagement with MEC Maruping Lekwene over health challenges in the Northern Cape

The South African Human Rights Commission (the Commission) in the Northern Cape invites members of the media to a briefing to be held following a critical engagement with the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health in the Northern Cape, Mr. Maruping Lekwene.

The briefing will focus on the outcomes of the engagement regarding challenges and potential human rights violations at the Northern Cape Mental Health Hospital, along with other pressing health issues in the province. The Commission and the MEC will address the media on the steps being taken by the Department of Health to address the challenges faced by the hospital and other healthcare facilities in the Northern Cape.

This is an important opportunity for the media to gain insights into the actions being undertaken by the provincial government to improve healthcare services, and we encourage your attendance and participation.

The media briefing will take place both virtually and in person. Therefore, we kindly request media houses to indicate their preference for virtual or in-person attendance when confirming their attendance.
