Equality courts play an important role in upholding the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. However, there have been concerns regarding their accessibility and effectiveness, particularly in rural and marginalised communities. The engagement aims to explore practical solutions to these challenges and reinforce the commitment of both the Commission and the DoJ & CD in advancing human rights in the Northern Cape province.
The objectives of the engagement are to:
- Review the operational status and challenges faced by equality courts in the Northern Cape Province.
- Discuss strategies to increase public awareness and improve access to these courts for all citizens.
- Strengthen the partnership between the Commission and the DoJ & CD to ensure that equality courts are equipped to serve their intended purpose effectively.

Prepared by the Northern Cape Provincial Office of the South African Human Rights Commission.
