Media Advisory: SAHRC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Office and partners conduct moot court workshops and host the provincial oral orunds of the National School Moot Court Programme

The South African Human Rights Commission, KwaZulu Natal Provincial Office (the Commission) in partnership with the KwaZulu Natal Department of Education (DoE), and other stakeholders, will conduct workshops in preparation for the Provincial Oral Rounds of the National Schools Moot Court Programme (NSMCP). The Commission and DoE following the workshops, will host the Provincial Oral Rounds at the Durban Magistrate Court.

In order to prepare the learners for the Provincial Oral Rounds of the NSMCP, the Commission, DoE and other stakeholders, will conduct preparatory workshops with participating learners from the ten schools that advanced through the essay writing phase. The workshops are aimed at enhancing the oralists with trial advocacy and oral presentation skills. The preparatory workshop will also be used to orientate the learners on various aspects including court procedures and court etiquette.

The Provincial Oral Rounds of the NSMCP, which will be hosted following the workshops will provide learners with the opportunity to present oral arguments in a courtroom before judicial officers and legal practitioners.

The NSMCP workshops will be held as follows:

Date    : 28 - 30 August 2024

Time    : 08H00

Venue  : Dokkies Centre, Durban

 

NSMCP Provincial Oral Rounds will be held as follows:

Date             : 31 August 2024

Time            : 08H00 – 16H00

Venues        : Durban Magistrate Court, Cnr Somtseu & Stanger Street, Durban
