Monday, 21 October 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) Limpopo Provincial Office (LPO) will this week, undertake monitoring activities at the South African Police Services’ (SAPS) places of detention, cells. As part of the SAHRC’s commitment to the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM), the monitoring will give effect to the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT).

The monitoring of the detention facilities takes a different approach by also raising human rights awareness, as these are places where victims seek refuge and alleged offenders are detained.  In addition, general service delivery within these facilities will also be monitored.
