Media Alert: The South African Human Rights Commission monitors hospitals, places of safety, schools, older persons homes

The South African Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) Limpopo Provincial Office (LPO) is hosting Commissioner Nomahlubi Khwinana from 4 to 8 November 2024. Commissioner Khwinana is visiting the Provincial Office to inspect hospitals, places of safety, schools, and older persons’ homes.

This monitoring visit serves to track, and report on, human rights violations of the following marginalised groups: children, older persons, and persons with disabilities. Given evidence of policy exclusion from access to dialysis treatment to older persons; violation of children’s rights; and violations of rights of people with disabilities, the purpose of monitoring the identified facilities is to ensure redress in line with the Commission’s mandate.

The monitoring will take place as follows:

  • Dates : 4 – 8 November 2024
  • Area : Polokwane, Limpopo Province

Commissioner Khwinana is responsible for Civil & Political Rights; Persons with disabilities & Older Persons; Children; Independent Monitoring Mechanism (CRPD)
