The first stop was the Oncology ward at the Polokwane Hospital. While at the hospital, the Commission engaged with the hospital staff and management amid the monitoring activities. The team also made observations of the hospital infrastructure. Second monitoring activity was conducted at Sileo School for the Blind. The Commission discovered that at least two children who are visually challenged are eligible for technical training but had not been able to access it despite several efforts made by one class teacher and staff.
The third sited monitored was the Polokwane Youth Care Centre, which houses children in conflict with the law. The fourth site monitored was an unregistered rehabilitation centre called No Smoking Church. This Monitoring work was conducted alongside the South African Police Services, the Department of Health (DoH), and the Department of Social Development (DSD). The Commission discovered several human rights violations, and advised the DoH and the DSD, to intervene in ensuring access to health and release of children and other patients.
The fifth site monitoring visit was at Lenyenye Equality Court where the Commission discovered that not much has been done to educate communities about the role of the Equality Court. The Commission finalised its monitoring visit to Shiluvana Frail Care Centre, in Tzaneen.
