Media Invite: SAHRC Mpumalanga Provincial Office to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Mbombela

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Monday, 02 December 2024

The South African Human Rights Commission (“the Commission”) in Mpumalanga will be commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Mbombela to raise awareness about their human right to equality and challenges faced by persons with disabilities. This year, the day shall be commemorated under the theme: “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future”.

The theme is in line with the equality clause in our Constitution and recognises the important role that persons with disabilities play in creating a more inclusive and sustainable world for all. It also emphasises the importance of the participation of persons with disabilities in decision-making processes that affect their lives. No one may be discriminated against on any prohibited ground, including disability.

The commemoration aims to conscientise society about the importance of everyone’s equality before the law as well as their right to equal protection and benefit of the law. The commemoration is scheduled to take place as follows:

  • Date: Tuesday, 03 December 2024
  • Venue: Chilli Pepper Boutique Hotel, Mbombela
  • Time: 09h00am – 14h00
