Media Advisory: The SAHRC’s KZN Provincial Office to meet with the King Cetshwayo District Council and Civil Society regarding the state of human rights in the region

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Thursday, 05 December 2024

Following the release of its KwaZulu Natal Water Inquiry Report in September 2023, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/ the Commission) is visiting District Municipalities on a programme to monitor progress on the implementation of its recommendations and to assess the state of human rights in the region.

The Commission will meet with the King Cetshwayo District Council and civil society. Additionally, the Commission will also conduct site visits across the local municipalities in the District. The Commission calls on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organisations in the King Cetshwayo District Municipality to engage with the Commission in detailing the state of human rights in the District and Province. The civil society stakeholder meetings will seek to draw on the activism and social action of local civil society groupings to develop community-based solutions on human rights challenges facing the district.
