Media Advisory: The SAHRC joins the Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Public Administration in its oversight visits to municipalities in the Free State

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/the Commission) will join the National Council of Provinces’ Select Committee on Cooperative Governance and Public Administration (Select Committee) during its oversight visits to selected municipalities in the Free State Province.

The oversight visits follows the SAHRC’s inquiry report into the state of service delivery at local government level in the Free State Province. The Select Committee will conduct oversight visits to Mafube Local Municipality, Matjhabeng Local Municipality and Kopanong Local Municipality. These municipalities have been placed under various forms of section 139 of the Constitution.

During the oversight visits, the Select Committee will conduct visitations to various projects and engage with various role players within the jurisdiction of the municipalities. The SAHRC will present to the Select Committee its findings and recommendations contained in the SAHRC’s inquiry report into the state of service delivery at local government level in the Free State Province.
