Media Briefing Invite: SAHRC launches human rights reports

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/Commission) will be launching four reports that highlight human rights work and issues across the country. The reports are informed by the Commission's ongoing research, monitoring activities, and data received from organs of state.

The following reports (2024-25 financial year) will be launched: 

  • State of Human Rights Report (2024-25)

The purpose of the report is to provide an overview of the human rights situation in South Africa drawing on the Commission’s work. It includes statistical information, analysis of co complaints, and key trends observed during the reporting period.

  • Section 184(3) Report

The Constitution places a duty on organs of state to report to the SAHRC annually on the measures they have taken to realise rights identified under Section 184(3) of the Constitution. This report assesses and analyses information submitted assesses to the Commission.

  • Recommendations Monitoring Report

The report reflects on the extent to which recommendations made by the Commission, based on the SAHRC's own reports, complaints it receives, and other human rights standards have been implemented. Three areas monitored nationally were (1) 2024 National Elections, (2) Infrastructure in schools, and (3) Health

  • International and Regional Human Rights Report

The report analyses key developments at international and regional levels regarding human rights. It aims to inform decision-makers in South Africa of global and regional trends that should be considered when, developing policies and laws.

The launch will take place as follows:

  • Date: Tuesday, 9 September 2025
  • Time: 12:00pm
  • Venue: SAHRC Head Office, Sentinel House, Sunnyside Office Park, 32 Princess of Wales Terrace, Parktown, Johannesburg
