Media Advisory: Constitution Hill Hosts the 14th National Schools Moot Court Grand Finale Showcasing SA’s Brightest Legal Learners

Saturday, 11 October 2025

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) in partnership with the Departments of Basic Education as well as Justice and Constitutional Development, will host the grand finale of the 14th Annual South African National Schools Moot Court Programme at the Constitutional Hill in Johannessburg on 12 October 2025.

The 2025 finalists are:

  • Brebner High School – Free State
  • Ndamase Senior Secondary School – Eastern Cape
  • Kgomotso High School – Northern Cape
  • Kopanong Senior Secondary School – Mpumalanga

The 14th National Schools Moot Court Programme focuses on the constitutionality of schools’ language admission policies, particularly those prescribing a single language of instruction. Learners will debate whether it is constitutional for schools to admit only learners who speak a particular language as their home language or who are fluent in that language.

The grand finale marks the culmination of a journey that began over eight months ago, involving more than 500 Grade 9 learners from across the country. The final round will be adjudicated by Judges of the Constitutional Court, Judges of the Supreme Court of Appeal, High Court Judges, Magistrates, and senior legal practitioners, ensuring that learners receive guidance and feedback from some of South Africa’s most respected legal minds.

The Grand Finale will be held as follows:

Date: 12 October 2025
Time: 09h00
Venue: Constitution Court, Braamfontein, Johannesburg

Issued by the South African Human Rights Commission in partnership with the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.
