Media Advisory: South African Human Rights Commission host Webinar on Defining Access to Healthcare

Attention: Editors and Reporters
Thursday, 25 June 2026

On Monday, 29 June 2026, the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC/the Commission) will host a webinar titled "Defining Access to Healthcare", bringing together key stakeholders to engage on one of South Africa's most important constitutional rights.

The right of access to healthcare services, protected by section 27(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, remains a fundamental socio-economic right. While this right is constitutionally guaranteed, there are often differing interpretations of what constitutes meaningful access to healthcare among communities, healthcare practitioners, civil society organisations, policymakers, and government institutions.

The webinar aims to facilitate a constructive multi-stakeholder dialogue on the meaning and practical implications of access to healthcare in South Africa. This engagement will provide a platform for diverse stakeholders to share experiences, perspectives, and recommendations on how South Africa can strengthen access to healthcare and advance the realisation of constitutional rights.

The webinar will be moderated by Commissioner Sandra Makoasha. Confirmed speakers include the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi. Additional speakers will be announced in due course.
