Media Invite: South African Human Rights Commission and Centre for Human Rights launch travelling exhibition I Decide=I Am

The globally acclaimed exhibition entitled: I Decide = I Am opens for the first time in South Africa at the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on 19 June 2017. The thought provoking pictorial images by illustrator Nadezhda Georgieva, and award winning journalist Yana Buhrer Tavanier, featuring art works by Daniel Mosako which pieces together the Life Esidimeni tragedy. The exhibition is infused with poignant audio narratives in vernacular, of persons living with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities telling their stories of life without voice, choice and control.
As part of the launch an interactive discussion on the theme of the exhibition which is the right to decide (legal capacity) as contained in article 12 (2) of the Convention on the Right of Persons with Disability will be held. The discussion will focus on the right of all persons with disabilities to enjoy legal capacity on an equal basis with others, the effect of legal capacity deprivation on the enjoyment of other rights and implementation of the concept of supported decision making.

The exhibition will be displayed at the South African Human Rights Commission until mid-July before travelling to its next location:

Gauteng Premier’s Office - September
Cliff Dekker Hofmeyer - October
Centre for Human Rights - November

The launch of the exhibition will take place:
