MEDIA INVITE:
Attention: Editors and Reporters
11 July 2017
On 11, 12 and 13 July 2017, the South African Human Rights Commission will host roadshows in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality.
These roadshows are expected to serve as a platform to amplify awareness on pertinent issues relating to access to justice, the Commission’s child friendly complaints handling procedure and access to information. The roadshows are centered on the theme ‘amplifying human rights education in rural and farming communities’.
The Human Rights Roadshows are an opportunity for the Commission to directly interact with the communities and to increase the Commission’s visibility, as well as promote its mandate. The roadshows will be at entry points of each of the towns identified. The roadshows will be conducted at clinics and will take the form of campaigns. Information and promotional material will be disseminated. Short presentations will also be made to passers-by and posters will be posted on the streets, notice boards, and police cells.
The Commission together with institutions supporting democracy, statutory bodies and government departments, will engage with the community members to raise awareness on the role of the law, role of the Commission and provide general legal advice.
