Media Invite: SAHRC’s Gauteng Provincial Office hosts Women's Month Dialogue

ATTENTION: EDITORS AND REPORTERS

28 August 2017

The South Africa Human Rights Commission’s Gauteng Provincial Office will host women’s month dialogue on the 30 August 2017 in Diepsloot Township, Gauteng.  The dialogue will be hosted under the theme “women united in moving South Africa forward”.

The prevalence of gender based violence is an international phenomenon and an overt violation of fundamental human rights. Developing interventions that aim to educate about gender based violence is fundamental to ensure that survivors of abuse acquire the relevant knowledge to prevent and address gender based violence and promote gender equality.

The month of August provides platforms to celebrate the great strides made since 1994 to improve the status of women in South Africa. It also provides an opportunity to intensify the fight against the various human rights violation that women currently face.

The key objectives of the dialogue is to raise awareness around issues relating to gender based violence; educate communities on basic human rights and avert or decrease incidents of gender based violence; and educate communities on forms of relief available to survivors of gender based violence.

Date:     30 August 2017, 10:00 – 14:00 (Wednesday)

Venue:  Diepsloot Youth Centre

Theme: Women united in moving South Africa forward
