Media Invite: SAHRC Gauteng provincial office hosts Provincial Indaba on access to Housing for migrants in Gauteng

Attention: Editors and Reporters

23 October 2017

The SAHRC’s Gauteng provincial office will be hosting a provincial indaba on access to housing for migrants in Gauteng cities. The purpose of the indaba is to create a platform for actors from various sectors to discuss and provide a structured response to the issue of access to housing for migrants. It is hoped that a multi-sectorial approach to the issue will accelerate the progressive realisation of the right to adequate housing.

The delivery of housing remains a contentious issue in Gauteng and has proven difficult for municipalities to address. The indaba seeks to craft a response to the plight of the poor which is often exacerbated by apartheid spatial planning which remains intact in many cities today.

The indaba will give a platform to stakeholders from various sectors to discuss the issue of migrant access to housing in Gauteng. Municipalities will be afforded the opportunity to present on their policies, strategies and challenges.

The details of the event are as follows:
Date:   24 October 2017
Time:   09:00 – 15h00
Venue: SAHRC 2nd Floor Training Centre, Braampark Office Park, Braamfontein, Johannesburg
