Deepening human rights through dialogue

Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa in partnership with other government departments, private and civil organisations will this afternoon host a Human Rights dialogue at the Vaal, in Johannesburg.

The dialogue forms part of the 2018 Human Rights Month under the theme, “The year of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela: promoting and deepening a human rights culture across society”.

The main topic for the dialogue is human rights and the language question - Are Afrikaans - only medium institutions antithetical to the founding values of the Constitution?
Contributors are further expected to deliberate on current human rights issues and the extent to which it could promote the national agenda on social cohesion and nation building.

Other speakers include General Secretary of the Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) Dennis George, human rights lawyer Advocate George Bizoz, Commissioner of the South African Human Rights Commission Responsible for Children’s Rights, Angie Makwetla, Commissioner Professor David Mosoma, Justice Yvonne Mokgoro, as well as Commissioner with the Commission for Gender Equality Mbuyiselo Botha.

The dialogue will be held at Desmond Tutu Great Hall in Vaal University of Technology.
