Latest on the Brandwag evictions

4 April 2018

Various residents are still locked out of their homes at the Brandwag flats in Bloemfontein.

This comes despite an agreement reached earlier between the South African Human Rights Commission and the Manguang Metro.
This morning more than 65 Bloemfontein families were evicted out of their Brandwag Municipal flats . Residents and their belongings were also left stranded in the rain before the SAHRC intervened.

The commission earlier found  that if the municipality enforces an eviction order it is obligated to offer residence alternative accommodation.
OFM News arrived back at the Brandwag flats a short while ago to find residence still standing outside their flats.

Their belongings can still be seen outside the apartments. Residence who spoke to OFM News said nothing has been communicated to them with regards to the earlier agreement.

They also complained that security personnel were preventing them from accessing their homes.
They are however adamant that they will somehow find a way to access their respective apartments.
