Behaviour of police during protests 'completely

The Western Cape Regional Commissioner at South African Human Rights Commission, Reverend Chris Nissen says the treatment of concerned community members by members of Saps during the "Total Shutdown" protests is completely unacceptable.
The police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd that was taking part in the Total Shutdown movement protesting against crime and gangsterism in their communities.

The police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd that was taking part in the Total Shutdown movement protesting against crime and gangsterism in their communities.
He says the behaviour of Saps members on innocent community members should be investigated by IPID.
Community members are encouraged to lay charges against the police, which the Human Rights Commission says it will be monitoring.
"The people are complaining that when there is a shooting the police don't come out but when they have protests like this they come out in masses.
"It is unacceptable that week in and week out we experience murders in our townships. We need drastic steps taken against the gangs, we need to ensure there is visible policing and we need to ask the leadership of the police to put the resources where they are needed."
