Western Cape head of the SA Human Rights Commission Chris Nissen has called upon President Cyril Ramaphosa to make good on his promise to hold a moratorium on farm evictions.
Online publication GroundUp has reported that Ramaphosa failed to uphold a promise made in 2014.
More than four months ago the SAHRC wrote to him.
Western Cape head of the SA Human Rights Commission Chris Nissen says they have yet to receive a response.
As a commission, we are very saddened by the fact that so many evictions still take place. There are very good farmers and land owners that really take care of their people but then you have got all these rotten apples...
— Chris Nissen, Western Cape head of the SA Human Rights Commission
My view is very simple, we must fight for our people to remain on the farms.

I hope he will return my call. I have also left a message for the minister of human settlements. What I will do in the next few days is pursue this with them, I will even go to their offices.
